VBS to Everyday Life: Keeping the Momentum Going

VBS week is always one of the biggest and brightest weeks of the summer. There’s joy, energy, singing at the top of our lungs, snacks shaped like moose tracks, and moments when kids catch a glimpse of God’s love in a whole new way. But after the songs fade and the decorations come down, it’s easy to wonder… how do we keep the momentum going?
This year’s VBS theme, True North: Trusting Jesus in Every Situation, reminded our kids (and us!) that we can trust God no matter what:
These are not just catchy phrases—they are truths our kids need all year long. So how can families take what was experienced during this high-energy week and carry it into the slower, sometimes messier, everyday rhythm of life?
Bringing the Lessons Home
Even though VBS is over, the lessons and excitement don’t have to end. Here are a few simple ways your family can keep the spirit of True North alive throughout the summer and into the school year:
Use Simple Reminders
Choose a phrase from the week like “We can trust God” and repeat it often—during tough moments, bedtime prayers, or even when saying goodbye in the morning. It’s a small habit that helps build big faith.
Create a Family "Faith Adventure"
Start a weekly tradition where your family shares one way you trusted God that week. It could be something small like being brave on the first day of camp or showing kindness to a friend. Keep a running list or journal of these "faith adventures" to celebrate how God is working in your lives.
Revisit the Bible Stories Together
Talk about the Bible stories your kids learned during VBS—each one showed how we can trust God no matter what. Take time as a family to revisit them, ask questions, and connect them to your daily lives:
These stories aren’t just lessons—they’re building blocks for lifelong faith. By coming back to them, your child will continue growing in confidence and trust in Jesus.
Use Daily Rhythms as Faith Moments
Turn everyday moments into opportunities to talk about God. Try asking over dinner, “Was there a moment today when you felt alone, needed help, or felt unsure?” Then remind your kids: God was with you in that moment. You can trust Him.
Celebrate the Journey
Faith isn’t built in one big week—it’s built over a lifetime of small, faithful steps. Let’s keep cheering on our kids, praying with them, and helping them see that trusting Jesus isn’t just for VBS... it’s for every day.
Even as backpacks get packed and schedules get full again, we can keep pointing our kids to their True North—Jesus, who never leaves them, never changes, and is always worth trusting.

- When we feel alone—we can trust God.
- When we feel powerless—we can trust God.
- When we need help—we can trust God.

Talk about the Bible stories your kids learned during VBS—each one showed how we can trust God no matter what. Take time as a family to revisit them, ask questions, and connect them to your daily lives:
- Jesus Teaches About God’s Love (Matthew 5–6): Jesus reminds us that we are deeply loved by God and that we can trust Him to take care of us, even when we feel anxious or unsure.
→ Ask your child: “When have you needed to be reminded that God loves you?”
- The Roman Officer Trusts Jesus (Matthew 8:5–13): This Roman centurion had big faith that amazed even Jesus. He trusted Jesus’ power without seeing it firsthand.
→ Ask: “Have you ever had to trust without seeing?”
- Jesus Sends His Followers (Matthew 28:16–20): Jesus gave the Great Commission and promised to be with His disciples forever. Then, through the gift of the Holy Spirit, they had everything they needed to share His love.
→ Ask: “What do you think Jesus wants us to do with the good news of His love?”
These stories aren’t just lessons—they’re building blocks for lifelong faith. By coming back to them, your child will continue growing in confidence and trust in Jesus.
