Packing More Than Pencils: Sending Your Child to School with God's Superpowers

The backpacks are broken in, the routines are (mostly) settled, and the newness of the school year has started to wear off. But even now, it’s worth remembering that your child isn’t just carrying pencils and paper—they’re carrying God’s superpowers into every school day.

In Kids Club, we’ve been talking about how God equips us with gifts like courage, wisdom, compassion, and faithfulness. These are more than good character traits—they're evidence of God's Spirit at work in your child’s life. Whether your kid is thriving or facing challenges, God is right there with them, helping them shine His light in their classroom, lunchroom, and even on the playground.

Even now, it’s not too late to revisit a backpack blessing. It can be as simple as a quick prayer before they head out the door:
“Lord, remind [child’s name] that they are never alone. Fill their heart with courage, their mind with peace, and their hands with kindness. Help them be a light for You today.”

You can also tuck little reminders of God’s love into their day—a sticky note in the lunchbox or a whisper on the way to school:
“God’s superpower in you today: kindness.”
“You’re brave. God’s got you.”

Everyday moments become faith moments when we invite God into them. Even school supplies can tell a bigger story: pencils can speak truth, notebooks can hold God-given wisdom, and scissors can remind us to cut out unkindness and make wise choices.

Not every day is easy, but a simple blessing, a kind word, or a reassuring hug can make all the difference. You’re doing more than packing lunches—you’re helping your child walk in faith, courage, and purpose.

So keep going, superhero parents. You’re equipping your child with more than school tools—you’re sending them out wrapped in love, covered in prayer, and filled with God’s power. That kind of packing lasts far beyond the school year.
