Pedal to the Metal

When I think about September, I am reminded that summer is over with.  The kids are starting to get comfortable in school, parents have started new routines, and grandparents are waiting for that invitation to help out in any way.  I am also reminded about that in ministry.  The summer is usually a time where families go on vacations, where missions and ministries are put on hold, and where a lot of us find time for rest.  One summer, the family was ending a vacation and Jenni and I decided that we were going to leave at 10pm to drive the 9 hour drive instead of leaving in the morning to start the journey home.  About 6 hours into it, I was growing extremely tired and decided it would be best to pull over at a rest stop and take a short snooze.  I ended up only taking about a 45 minute nap.  When I woke up I felt like I had been given the energy to start the journey once again, and to not only start the journey, but to put the pedal to the metal.  I believe that this is where we are as a church right now, coming off the rest of the summer and putting the pedal to the metal in ministry, Bible studies, and missions.  So in ending this, where do you see yourself buckling into and getting going?  Maybe you have been wanting to start something, maybe you have ideas of ministries or missions for the church, and if that is the case, I look forward to seeing you get behind the wheel and be excited for the journey.
