Salt of the Earth
Have you ever noticed how just a little bit of salt can totally change something?
Fries without salt? Pretty boring. But add a pinch, and suddenly they’re amazing. Watermelon with a little salt, so sweet! Have you ever roasted pumpkin seeds with sea salt? Seriously, like manna from heaven! Jesus told His followers, “You are the salt of the earth.” In other words, we’re supposed to bring out the best in the world: adding flavor, holding back what’s bad, and even bringing healing where things are broken.
How is it that you are being salty in this world, this community, this church?
Maybe this month, take time to think about how we can actually make the world, this community, and this church a better place, how our words and actions can draw people toward Jesus, what happens when we lose our “saltiness”, or how to “stay salty” and step boldly into the mission God gives us.
Salt is simple, but powerful. And the same is true for your life. Whether it’s in your family, your school, your job, or even just with friends: your presence can make things better, richer, and more hopeful.
And in reflecting about this, who knows, it might just change the way you see your world and, more importantly, the way the world sees Jesus through you.
