The Journey to Easter

Ash Wednesday and the Season of Lent

On Wednesday, March 5th, we begin our annual 40-day journey to Easter—a season known as Lent. This spiritual climb starts with Ash Wednesday, a service that reminds us of a profound truth: this life is temporary.
In the Methodist tradition, Ash Wednesday is one of the few services that centers on our mortality. Even in a Celebration of Life service, our focus is on the resurrection. But on this day, we pause to reflect on the fleeting nature of life and the eternal home we are building with God.

It’s easy to get caught up in the busyness of daily life, losing sight of what truly lasts. Lent invites us to realign our hearts, reminding us that everything we do—our acts of love, service, and faith—is shaping not just our own lives but the lives of others in God’s eternal kingdom.

As we step into this sacred season, may we embrace the journey with humility, reflection, and a renewed focus on what truly matters.

Please join us in the Worship Center at 6:30 p.m. for our Ash Wednesday service. At the same time, children will gather in the children’s space for an age-appropriate teaching on Ash Wednesday, helping them understand the meaning of this sacred day in a way that resonates with them.

As we step into this season of reflection and renewal, may we embrace the journey with humility, faith, and a deep awareness of God’s eternal promises.

A Lenten Practice

During Lent, it’s common to either give something up (a form of partial fasting) or add a spiritual practice. While both can be meaningful, I’ve seen the greatest impact in those who choose to add a practice—something that draws them closer to God in new and deeper ways.

Last week, I shared about our upcoming sermon series, which will take us through the book of Luke. If you haven’t read that article yet, I encourage you to go back and check it out. In it, I introduced a 40-day devotional, featuring short daily readings that guide you through the life of Jesus as told in Luke.

Immersing yourself in Jesus’ story throughout Lent is a powerful way to prepare for Easter. And doing so in community—discussing, reflecting, and growing together—can make the experience even more transformative.

If you haven’t chosen a Lenten practice yet, consider joining us in this journey through Luke. Let’s walk through Jesus’ life together and allow His story to shape our hearts this season.

Embracing the Heart of Lent and Easter

Lent and Easter mark the most important season in the life of the Church. This is the foundation of our faith—the reason we worship on Sunday, the reason the empty cross is our symbol, and the hope we celebrate every single day.

But beyond tradition and ritual, this season is an opportunity for transformation. How you engage with it is up to you. Will you let these 40 days deepen your faith, shape your heart, and draw you closer to God?

I invite you to step fully into this journey—through worship, reflection, and spiritual practices that lead you to the hope of Easter morning. Let this season change you.
