Wax in the Sunshine

When we look at the life of Jesus, we see that he practiced this week’s rule when he faced the most challenging moments of his life. He didn’t complain but instead prayed and asked God what to do next:
“Now my soul is deeply troubled. Should I pray, ‘Father, save me from this hour’? But this is the very reason I came! Father, bring glory to your name.” Then a voice spoke from heaven, saying, “I have already brought glory to my name, and I will do so again.” –John 12:27-28 NLT

Jesus’ response doesn’t surprise me, being he’s the Holist man to walk the earth. It often feels like it’s impossible to live up to his standards. Our devotional book says:
At the onset of the most excruciating week of His life, Jesus asked not, “How can I get out of this?” but “How can God’s name be glorified?” –The Red Sea Rules, by Robert J. Morgan (Rule 2)

So what can we take away from this? As I discussed in the sermon Sunday, life will always throw difficult things in our path. When that happens, we need to stop, ask God for strength, then pray for him to show us how we can glorify him with our situation.

For most of us, this isn’t our habit. We want to complain to God about the hardship (me). Over time, we’ll change our mindset to thanking God for the strength and opportunity.

Questions to Ponder:

  • How can you change your perspective in a current life situation?
  • When has God deepened your trust in him?
  • What’s one thing you can praise God for today?
