Receiver or Seeker
Our Daily Office reading for today is from 2 Corinthinthians. If you want to read a different part of today’s daily office, here are all of the readings:
Paul is writing to Corinth in this chapter and warning them because they struggle to determine who is preaching truth and who isn’t. Read some of his words here:
“You happily put up with whatever anyone tells you, even if they preach a different Jesus than the one we preach, or a different kind of Spirit than the one you received, or a different kind of gospel than the one you believed.” –2 Corinthians 11:4 NLT
We still struggle with this today, especially with so many “Christian camps” theologically thinking. How should a person tell the difference between who to listen to and who to ignore?
John Wesley believed we were supposed to think critically regarding scripture and spirituality. Not only were we to pray, but we were also to mobilize the power of our minds. God gave us an incredible power within our minds…our very own supercomputer. When you match that with the Holy Spirit living within us, we can understand a lot.
The problem is many people put themselves in the position of just receiving information from others and not taking the responsibility of educating themselves. That’s why I try every sermon series to give you ways to go deeper on a topic. I want you to study on your own and ask questions.

Questions to Ponder:
- Do you think of yourself as someone who receives or seeks information?
- How do you make sense of options that differ on religious matters?
- What’s one example of a topic you’ve studied in your spiritual journey?
