Look Where You Want to Go
If there’s one thing you take away this week, it’s where you’re looking when you are tempted or spiritually attacked. Our temptation is to focus on our enemy and know where the attack is coming from, but by doing so, we pull our focus from God.
Our devotion puts it this way:
Our devotion puts it this way:
“But we always make a mistake when we acknowledge the Lord and keep our eyes on Satan. Far better to acknowledge the devil while keeping our eyes on Christ.” –The Red Sea Rules, by Robert J. Morgan (Rule 3)
In motorcycle riding, they teach us that our bikes will go wherever we look. When we’re turning, we must turn our heads toward our turn. If we look down at the ground, then that’s where the bike will end up. If we look ahead and into the curve, that’s where we’ll point the motorcycle.
Spirituality is the same way. If we keep our eyes on the thing coming at us, then we aren’t moving toward whatever God is in store for us.
Paul intentionally spoke directly to the devil’s work in the lives of those around him, as recorded in the book of Acts:

Paul intentionally spoke directly to the devil’s work in the lives of those around him, as recorded in the book of Acts:
Then he said, “You son of the devil, full of every sort of deceit and fraud, and enemy of all that is good! Will you never stop perverting the true ways of the Lord? Watch now, for the Lord has laid his hand of punishment upon you, and you will be struck blind. You will not see the sunlight for some time.” Instantly mist and darkness came over the man’s eyes, and he began groping around begging for someone to take his hand and lead him. –Acts 13:10-11 NLT
Today, make a point not to look behind you or even at the things thrown at you. Instead, look toward the direction you want and toward God, who gives you the strength to get there.

Thoughts to Ponder
- What’s something you need to stop focusing on in your life?
- How can you remind yourself to keep your eyes focused on God?
- Is there something you need to put in your rearview?
