God’s Presence in the Trial

The harder life gets, the more God wants to make his presence known to us. For Israel, God made his presence known visually:

“The Lord went ahead of them. He guided them during the day with a pillar of cloud, and he provided light at night with a pillar of fire. This allowed them to travel by day or by night.” –Exodus 13:21 NLT

In Israel’s most desperate season, God made his presence dramatically known to them.
“At the Red Sea, God put His people in a position where His presence had never been so real to them.” –The Red Sea Rules, by Robert J. Morgan (Rule 7)

It would be nice if God had a little cloud for each of us today, like our own personal God GPS to guide us where we God. God’s presence is now within us instead of in front of us. We carry his Spirit within to guide and protect us through his power. We can take strength from this presence that is with us always.
“But let all who take refuge in you rejoice; let them sing joyful praises forever. Spread your protection over them, that all who love your name may be filled with joy. For you bless the godly, O Lord; you surround them with your shield of love.” –Psalms 5:11-12 NLT

Have you sat and thought about this idea of God’s presence? God is with you everywhere you go, just like you had a personal God cloud. Reflect on that some today.

Thoughts to Ponder

  • How would you act differently if God’s Spirit guided you with something visual?
  • Do you ever visualize God with you?
  • What would it look like if you imagined God sitting next to you while you prayed?
