Visualize God’s Presence
Yesterday we started talking about how we can begin visualizing God’s presence. We do that by:
“First, affirm His nearness in your heart…Second, visualize God’s presence in your mind.” –The Red Sea Rules, by Robert J. Morgan (Rule 7)
Children have powerful imaginations. If we learned about God at a young age, we created an image of him. For those of us who were fortunate to live in a home that taught God was loving and modeled that love, we probably imagined him as a grandparent that showed up with lots of hugs. For those of us who grew up hearing that God was there to judge us, punish us for our sins, and had this judgment modeled for us, we probably imagined him as a stern man sitting behind a court desk, glaring down upon us.
How we visualize God makes a huge difference in how we pray to him. Reflect with me on this passage from Deuteronomy:

“There is no one like the God of Israel. He rides across the heavens to help you, across the skies in majestic splendor. The eternal God is your refuge, and his everlasting arms are under you. He drives out the enemy before you; he cries out, ‘Destroy them!” –Deuteronomy 33:26-27 NLT
This passage describes a God who is mighty, powerful, majestic, and lifts us up. How you imagine God defines your relationship with him.

Thoughts to Ponder
- Picture God right now. What does he look like?
- Does your image of God match your understanding of who he is?
- How can you change this image?
