God Through Prayer
We’ve been looking at how to identify God’s nearness intentionally. We’re doing so with 4 steps, and today is step 3.
“First, affirm His nearness in your heart…Second, visualize God’s presence in your mind…Third, access God’s nearness through prayer.” –The Red Sea Rules, by Robert J. Morgan (Rule 7)
2 and 3 go hand in hand with my mind. When we have a concrete image of God in our minds, it makes praying to him easier. We can picture him right next to us, listening.
James talks about how we should approach our relationships with God in prayer:

James talks about how we should approach our relationships with God in prayer:
“So humble yourselves before God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Come close to God, and God will come close to you. Wash your hands, you sinners; purify your hearts, for your loyalty is divided between God and the world.” –James 4:7-8 NLT
God loves us, but he is also perfect and all-powerful. We are to ask him to forgive us and humble ourselves as someone unworthy of him. When we do, he always takes us into his loving arms as he always does. He then becomes a perfect parent, a best friend, a mentor, and a confidant. He’s everything we need when we need it.

Thoughts to Ponder
- What is your attitude when you’re in prayer right now?
- How can you adjust it in a small way today?
- Did your image of God change from yesterday to today?
