Breathe and Praise

Some things in life are given. For example, if we’re going to be healthy, we need to eat healthy food, drink lots of water, exercise, and get 8 hours of sleep at night. If we eat only junk food and soda, and sit on the couch watching binge-watching TV at 4:00 am, we’ll probably feel the effects of those life choices eventually.

The same goes for our spiritual lives. Praise and thanking Good is good for the soul. It’s part of what we must do to be spiritually healthy. Scripture tells us that praising God is part of our spiritual DNA.
“Praise the Lord! Praise God in his sanctuary; praise him in his mighty heaven! Praise him for his mighty works; praise his unequaled greatness!… Let everything that breathes sing praises to the Lord! Praise the Lord!” –Psalms 150:1-2, 6 NLT

Morgan explains it this way:
How can we better “thank we all our God”? Live more praise-oriented lives? I’ve been working on that, and I’d like to suggest that praise and worship are the sand and cement that hold the bricks in place along life’s daily pathway. –The Red Sea Rules, by Robert J. Morgan (Rule 10)

Praising God is the glue that holds our spiritual life together. We need it as much as we need to read the Bible and spend time with other believers. But, if you’re only praising God when you show up on Sunday mornings and the worship team leads you, your connection with God will suffer.

Thoughts to Ponder

  • Do you praise God on a daily basis?
  • How would you raise your “praise” ability with God?
  • Is your connection with God what you want it to be?
