Getting the Most from Advent

This Sunday starts an important season in the church - Advent. It's the start of the Christian year along with a season of preparation and anticipation. The word advent comes from the Latin word adventus which means "coming" or "visit."

We're literally waiting on the arrival of Christ.

Tips to Get the Most of Advent

1) Make a point to set time aside for God every day. The sermon series this year focuses on a different Christmas Hymn and how it reflects with scripture. I've found a free daily devotional that will take you through the same process. You can download it here, read it in the Bible App, or check Facebook for Daily posts.
2) Focus on the theme for each week. In Advent, there is a theme each week. We focus on this when we light the Advent Wreath (the wreath with purple, pink, and white candles). It goes in this order: hope, faith, joy, and peace. You can put the word of the week up so you can see it each morning and find ways to remind yourself of that theme during the craziness of the week.

3) Take worship with you. I know you're surrounded by Christmas music everywhere you go, and it started before Thanksgiving! Consider subscribing so the church's Apple Music or Spotify playlists and listening so the songs we're singing during the holidays in your car or at home. Don't get me wrong, I love "I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Clause" and "The Christmas Can Can." Being intentional to listen to music to connect with God will refocus you during this busy season.
