Finding Your Place to Serve

Using Your Gifts to Bless the Church in a Time of Change

Transitions can be unsettling. Whether it’s a new season in your personal life or a change in leadership at church, these moments often come with questions, uncertainties, and opportunities. As our church family journeys through a pastoral transition, there’s one thing we can all be sure of: God is still at work, and each of us has an important part to play.

Scripture tells us in 1 Peter 4:10 (NLT), “God has given each of you a gift from his great variety of spiritual gifts. Use them well to serve one another.” Every believer is uniquely equipped with talents, passions, and spiritual gifts that are meant to build up the body of Christ. When we step forward to serve, we don’t just fill roles or complete tasks—we live out our calling and reflect God’s love in powerful ways.

Why Serving Matters During a Pastoral Transition

A pastoral transition is a critical time for the health and strength of a church community. It’s a season when the church leans on its members to remain united, supportive, and mission-focused. By volunteering, we help maintain the stability and continuity that keeps our church vibrant and welcoming.

Here’s why your involvement is so vital right now:
  • Stability and Continuity: When familiar faces continue to serve in visible ways, it reassures both long-time members and visitors that the church’s mission remains strong.
  • Support for New Leadership: A new pastor brings fresh vision and energy, but they also need a solid foundation of committed volunteers to help turn vision into action.
  • Strengthening Community: Serving together fosters deeper connections within the congregation. It reminds us that church is not just about Sunday mornings—it’s about being the hands and feet of Christ every day.

Discovering and Using Your Gifts

  • You may already know exactly where you love to serve—or you might be wondering what your gifts are. Here are a few steps to help you discover your place:
    1. Pray About It: Ask God to show you where your gifts are most needed and where you can grow.
    2. Reflect on Your Strengths and Passions: Are you great with kids? Love organizing? Enjoy cooking or hospitality? Passion often points to calling.
    3. Be Willing to Try: Sometimes, the best way to discover your niche is to step out and serve in a new area, even if it’s outside your comfort zone.

Romans 12:6 reminds us, “In his grace, God has given us different gifts for doing certain things well.” Your gift—whether it’s teaching, encouraging, helping behind the scenes, or welcoming at the door—matters deeply.

The Blessing of Serving

Not only does your service bless others, but it blesses you, too. Volunteering can deepen your faith, connect you with others, and give you a sense of purpose and belonging. In John 13:17, Jesus says, “Now that you know these things, God will bless you for doing them.”

As we move through this season of transition, I encourage you to step forward and find your place to serve. Together, we can be the steady, faithful presence that ensures our church continues to thrive—and that God’s love shines brightly through us all.

If you’re ready to get involved or want to explore where you might fit best, reach out to a ministry leader or contact the church office. We are excited to walk alongside you as you discover the joy and blessing of serving.
