This week, the message goes deeper into the Wesleyan themes of love and grace. We're introducing a new song: Tasha Cobbs Leonard’s “Gracefully Broken.” This song speaks about surrendering to God, trusting Him in moments of brokenness, and allowing His grace to work through our vulnerabilities.

Released in 2017, this song lifts up the grace of God as the force that turns brokenness into beauty, which aligns with these scriptures about surrender, strength in weakness, and God’s loving process of refinement. Here’s how it connects to scripture:

Surrendering to God

  • Romans 12:1 (NLT): “And so, dear brothers and sisters, I plead with you to give your bodies to God because of all he has done for you. Let them be a living and holy sacrifice—the kind he will find acceptable. This is truly the way to worship him.”
  • The theme of surrender in “Gracefully Broken” aligns with this verse, where we are called to offer ourselves as living sacrifices, fully surrendered to God’s will.

God’s Strength in Our Weakness

  • 2 Corinthians 12:9 (NLT): “Each time he said, ‘My grace is all you need. My power works best in weakness.’ So now I am glad to boast about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ can work through me.”
  • The lyric “Your power at work in me, I’m broken gracefully” echoes this scripture, where Paul speaks of how God’s power is perfected in our weakness. In the song, there is a recognition that in our brokenness, God’s grace is what sustains and strengthens us.

God’s Loving Refinement

  • Isaiah 64:8 (NLT): “And yet, O Lord, you are our Father. We are the clay, and you are the potter. We all are formed by your hand.”
  • The imagery of being “broken” is reminiscent of this verse, where God is the potter, molding and shaping us. Though we may feel broken, it is a process of refinement by God’s hand to fulfill His purpose in our lives.

Trusting God’s Plan Through Brokenness

  • Psalm 34:18 (NLT): “The Lord is close to the brokenhearted; he rescues those whose spirits are crushed.”
  • The song expresses a deep trust in God’s closeness during times of brokenness, connecting with this verse that reassures us of God’s presence and rescue in our brokenness.
