Part 10 - Proverbs 30

This Bible study devotional covers Joshua chapters 19-21. In this passage, we read Agur's humble wisdom.

As always, we are committed to showing you how to see the good news of the Gospel in every passage of Scripture. In Proverbs 30, we see that the weakness of humility is God’s greatest strength. Jesus's crucifixion is humble and weak, but it is more powerful than all man’s philosophies and power.

**Observation Questions:**

1. In Proverbs 30:1-9, what does Agur acknowledge about his own wisdom and understanding in comparison to God?

2. What are the two things Agur asks of God before he dies, and why does he believe these requests are important?

3. How does the passage from 1 Corinthians 1:27-29 contrast the world's values with God's choices?

4. Reflecting on Philippians 2:5-8, how did Jesus demonstrate humility, and what was the ultimate expression of His humility?

**Interpretation Questions:**

1. Why might Agur consider himself "too stupid to be a man" and lacking understanding, and how does this perspective relate to the concept of humility?

2. Agur prays for neither poverty nor riches but for his daily needs. What does this suggest about the relationship between material wealth and one's spiritual life?

3. Considering 1 Corinthians 1:27-29, why do you think God chooses to use the "foolish" and "weak" things of the world to accomplish His purposes?

4. How does the humility of Christ, as described in Philippians 2:5-8, challenge our typical understanding of power and success?

**Application Questions:**

1. Reflect on your own life; can you identify an area where pride has blinded you to your faults? What steps can you take to cultivate humility in that area?

2. Agur seeks a life of moderation to keep his heart focused on God. What is one practical change you can make this week to avoid the distractions of excess or scarcity in your life?

3. In light of God's use of the humble and 'foolish,' identify a situation where you feel weak or inadequate. How can you trust God to use you in that situation this week?

4. Jesus' example of humility led to the cross. What is one way you can follow Jesus' example of humility in your interactions with others this week?

5. Think of a person or group who may be overlooked or undervalued in your community. How can you show them honor and respect, reflecting the upside-down values of God's kingdom?
