Breathe and Praise
by Faith Parry on August 10th, 2023
Some things in life are given. For example, if we’re going to be healthy, we need to eat healthy food, drink lots of water, exercise, and get 8 hours of sleep at night. If we eat only junk food and soda, and sit on the couch watching binge-watching TV at 4:00 am, we’ll probably feel the effects of those life choices eventually. The same goes for our spiritual lives. Praise and thanking Good is good...  Read More

Perspective of Praise
by Faith Parry on August 10th, 2023
A person's perspective in life is everything. For example, it will feel cool when you've been outside in 100º weather and walk into a room that is 76 or even 78 degrees. However, if you've been inside cleaning and working around the house and it's 76 degrees, it'll feel hot quickly. The home temperature's "comfort" depends on your perspective. The same thing can happen in our spiritual lives if we ...  Read More

God-Sightings
by Katie Strickland on August 9th, 2023
What is a God-Sighting you may ask?  Well, each morning during Vacation Bible School, we ask the kids to share some way they saw God at work the day before.  Their crew leaders then wrote what had been shared on a star and the stars were hung on the walls in the sanctuary.  By the end of the week we had over 68 stars and some of those stars had multiple God-Sightings on them.  Our God-Sighting ranged from ...  Read More

Zip Line Adventures
by The Florida United Methodist Children's Home on August 9th, 2023
Summer Fun on Friday at the Children's Home means zip lining on our high ropes course! Not only is it fun for the youth, but it's also a big boost to their self-confidence. For some it's a major accomplishment conquering their fear of heights. And their friends cheering them on from the ground is a big plus. This young man really struggled to find the courage to step off that platform. And as soon...  Read More

Singing our Praise
by Faith Parry on August 9th, 2023
Moses and Miriam’s songs in Exodus 15 are the first recorded Praise songs in the Bible. Ever since Egypt, God’s people (Jews and Christians alike) have been singing our praises to God. We sing when things are good and when they are bad. Some of our most potent songs come from hard times in life. “In the history of the Christian church, some of our greatest hymns have come in the darkest moments.” ...  Read More

Praising by Name
by Faith Parry on August 8th, 2023
Israel has done more than one thing right in this story! There are so many that are examples of how not to do something. This time they do the first time. They trusted God when they took steps of faith through the Red Sea, and after God redeemed them, they praised him. Picture it: a mute multitude gazing in stunned disbelief at a body of water whose powerful surges had first saved by saving, then ...  Read More

Paper Paper Paper
by Faith Parry on August 3rd, 2023

Brian stands excitedly beside our donation pile of paper, school supplies, and suitcases. These items are things they desperately need. We collected the paper last quarter when they shared this need wit...  Read More

When people are sad, shine Jesus’ light!
by Faith Parry on July 27th, 2023
Don’t let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God.” –John 14:1 Today, we talked about the sun and how important it is. Most importantly, we talked about what to do when a friend is sad. We can help our friends and show God's love when we cheer them up. In Bible, the kids learned from John 19–20 about how Jesus helped his mother. She was sad when he was about to die. He didn't think about himself, bu...  Read More

by Faith Parry on July 26th, 2023
Shout with joy to the Lord, all the earth!” –Psalm 100:1 We had more kids show up today that hadn't been here Monday or Tuesday.Today we learned about our moon. Although other plants have more than one, we have 1 beautiful moon that orbits earth. 24 people have traveled to see the moon, but only 12 people have walked on the moon. The moon reflects the sun's lights, just like we reflect the light o...  Read More

Thank you to the amazing youth and adults that are making this week possible.Today we learned about the planets in our solar system. There are four planets that orbit our sun that have rings. Those rings aren't solid as th...  Read More

The Miracle is a Mistake
by Faith Parry on July 25th, 2023
I heard someone say that they didn't believe God does miracles anymore. I don't remember any other conversation details, but the statement stood out because it broke my heart. In my first year of seminary, my New Testament professor gave a 3-hour lecture all on stories he personally heard of people talking about personal miracle experiences. These two events couldn't be more different. In some way...  Read More
